The Technology Strategy Board and Defra announce two joint funding calls for the food processing and manufacturing sectors for both large and small companies. The two competitions will be formally launched at the Farming, Food and Drink Innovate for Growth Summit on 14 March 2012.

To promote both these competitions further, the Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is organising a series of regional workshops in March and April 2012 around the UK.
The collaborative R&D competition will be open in June 2012 and cover but is not limited to:
• More efficient food processing and manufacturing technologies
• Improved Resource efficiency within the whole manufacturing value chain (raw materials, energy, water and labour etc)
• Improved storage, handling, packaging and distribution systems across the supply chain, including the retail and food service sectors
• Decision support tools including stock management and labeling systems
• Some aspects of primary production that clearly impact on processing and manufacturing efficiency
• Efficient recycling of manufacturing by-products and waste streams.
The feasibility studies funding will be open in April support the rapid development of an innovative idea and demonstrate its practical feasibility.
